What exactly is Peddling?
Peddling is a very handy way to sell your items (weapons, food, pets, etc.) to other players in the game. This is also called opening a "stall" or "booth".
The store is your own personal little shop where other players can visit and purchase items or leave questions/feedback in a dedicated pane.

Why is Peddling a good feature?
Peddling is a fantastic feature – take advantage of it! The reason this is so helpful is because you will be able to take part in the game’s economy. You can also make a larger profit off of your items compared to reselling the items to an NPC. Merchants are great for selling when it comes to junk, but if you get an item that another player can use, Peddling is the best route.

So, you think you can sell?
Peddling sounds like a good feature, but how do you use it? First, you need to make sure you meet the requirements.
The following requirements need to be met in order for you to open your own stall:

• You cannot open a stall with your pet summoned.
• You cannot open a stall while you are mounted.
• You must be at least level 15 to open a stall.

Great! Now you’re ready to open your stall, right? Not really. There’s one more thing you need to keep in mind before you try to open your stall. If you don’t follow the next step, you’ll have a very difficult time figuring out where to set up shop.

• There are specific areas in town where you can open your stall.

For example, most people like to open their shops in Su Zhou near the main Teleport area. This is fine, but if it’s too crowded for you, it’s possible to open one in another town.
There are two other great spots for selling. One is located in Lou Yang, right where you teleport into town. The other is located in Lou Yang as well, near the second teleport spot – right between the teleport NPC and the Pet Island teleport NPC.

Try going to So Zhou to take a look at the shops there. You’ll get an idea of the placement required to open a shop.

Here are a few user submitted tips about Peddling:

“Go to other shops and check their prices on the things you’re selling. Then decide if u want to sell lower, the same or higher than their price based on the current market.”

“Players who want to earn quick money should sell their materials at the given market price. Of course, overpricing the materials would make no one interested in them.”

“Only sell materials that are inexpensive and leave the more rare items for player-to-player trade.”

“Players who have lots of time can peddle and sell their materials at a higher price than the market value of it. For example, a Tiger Eye gem is worth 8 gold market price, the player can sell it for 10 gold or even 12 gold (understanding that players WILL be interested in such gems).”

“DO NOT SELL YOUR RARES IN YOUR PEDDLE SHOP! If you must, do this only if you are in desperate need of money. Otherwise, don’t shoot for this option.”

“Always remember that the peddle shops takes away 8% of what your total earnings are. Say an item is worth 100 gold, if you round it up, the system will deduct 10 gold from you and you only gain 90 gold.”

The Dragon Oath Team realizes that a lot of players find it very difficult to obtain the pieces necessary for a Bladewind Mount. So, with our next patch, we’ve decided to increase the drop rate of the items required for the mount. This change will make the chances of getting the Bladewind mount much easier in the future.

-Bladewind’s Tooth has an increased drop rate from the boss in the Chess Event

-Bladewind’s Claw has an increased drop rate from the bosses in the Swallow’s Dock Event

-Bladewind’s Tooth and Wing can now be received by participating in the Lucky Bingo Event

iHearLess: I’m a 21 years old College junior and a full time gamer

Dragon Oath: Why did you choose to play Dragon Oath?
iHearLess: I greatly enjoy Dragon Oath because it has many unique systems that many other games don’t have. I play it for 2 years now, but I’m not bore with it yet. There is just so much to explore in game. And the variety of 9 classes, with such uniqueness in skills and pets, it is really awesome.

Dragon Oath: What is your favorite city/town/dungeon/region (pick) in Dragon Oath and why?
iHearLess: Perhaps my favorite dungeon is the Yan Tomb. It is the best training spot for all level and it yields the most experience points in the game as well. However, you enter the dungeon at your own risk since it is a PK map. You may get kill by anyone at anytime without a warning. Furthermore, the cave also contains lots of powerful boss and filled with many rare types of loot and item that is exclusive on in Yan Tomb.

Dragon Oath: Are there any events that your guild often does together?
iHearLess: My guild mostly does Horse Raider together the most. They all really love the Treasure Map quest. Furthermore, the guild also do Boss, q123 and thief together with our Alliance.

Dragon Oath: Are you actively recruiting members? What do you look for in new members?
iHearLess: Yes, everyone is welcome. But since the members slot is limited and will be full sooner or later, we are actively seeking lv 40+ players. But if you have a friend that is already in the guild, let me know, I’ll get you in regardless of your level

Dragon Oath: Who are the best contributors in your guild?
iHearLess: Almost everyone do their share of work in building the guild. FinalFantasy, brigette, Oxigen, MrRi, and kralid perhaps were the best contributors in my guild.

Dragon Oath: How would you describe your guild?
iHearLess: My guild is very hardworking and we stick together. If you need help, there’s will always be someone that will help you. We are a very friendly and well respected guild if you know and understand us. And unlike the old HeartLess, we do not focus so much on warfare or asking member to do quest for a Trader slot.

Dragon Oath: What do you look forward to for the future of your guild?
iHearLess: I want my guild to be a strong, loyal, and to be the best guild in Zion

Dragon Oath has introduced a new Player Classifieds system with the release of the Age of Destiny Expansion.  This new system allows players to post and browse classifieds or “listings” in order to help them find other, like minded, gamers with whom to play. This system supports the primary types of relationships you can form with other players in Dragon Oath.  These include: Marriage, Kinship, Master and Apprentice, and Guild Memberships. 
The Classifieds System can be accessed at any time from the main in-game interface. Click on the “C” button located under your player Icon and Status in the upper left corner of the screen, next to your Pet’s Icon and Status (if you have a pet summoned).

From here you can access the Player Classifieds, as well as the older Pet Classifieds system. The Pet Classifieds system can only be used to view the basic Pet Classifieds entered through the Su Zhou Pet NPC, Si Si White.  Please visit her in-game for more pet options.  For Player Classifieds, click on the “Classifieds: Player” button to continue.

The main Classifieds screen has everything you need, but it can be a bit overwhelming at first look.   

The easiest way to deal with all of the information provided here is to divide it into smaller sections, based on their purpose. The main section, showing all of the player classified listings, occupies most of this dialog box starting in the upper left part of the screen. The upper right section is used to display the details for the individual listing that is currently highlighted in the left section. This includes player’s name, class, and other useful information. Below these details, in the bottom right section of the screen, you will see the “Popularity” section. This is used for voting on the highlighted listing, allowing players to further evaluate any given listing based on an overall popularity rating given to each listing.  In the bottom left section of this screen you will find the four buttons used to perform the four main functions for the Classifieds system: Create, Delete, Manage, and Search.

Main Functions

There are four main functions in the Player Classifieds system. The buttons to perform these are located in the bottom left corner of the main Classifieds interface. Create, Delete, Manage, and Search. The first function, “Create”, is used to post your own personal classified listings with specific information about the type of relationships you are looking for. The second, “Delete”, allows you to remove any old or unwanted classified listings you have previously created. The third, “Manage”, allows you to modify any listings you have already posted using the “Create” option.  The last major function is “Search”. Use this to find other players who have created listings that match your specific interests. 

Details for “Create” & “Manage”

When you first hit the “Create” button, a “Publishing Information” box will appear.  From here, you can choose what type of listing you would like to create.  Click on one of the four listed options and then hit “Select”.  Additionally, clicking the “Manage” button will bring up the same dialog and same set of secondary functions used to change any listing you may already have published.

The four different types of relationships have similar, but slightly different input screens.  All four relation types have an entry for Class, Gender and Level preferences.  M + A and Guild listings also include an entry for “purpose”.  In an M+A listing, this option is where you specify “Master” if you are looking for a new master, or “Recruit Apprentice” if you would like to be a Master and find a new Apprentice to guide.  For the Guild listings, you have the options of “Guild Revenue” if you are looking for new members to join your guild (and improve guild revenue) or “Search Guild” if you are looking for a Guild to join.

Once you have selected all of your requirements, click the “Confirm to Publish” button on the lower right side of the box to complete the process. You will need to create a unique listing for each type of relationship you are looking for. Each listing you create will last up to 6 days before the system automatically removes it.  If you wish to remove it sooner, use the “Delete” option from the main screen. All listings are viewable by all Dragon Oath players.

Deleting (or repealing) an existing listing pulls up a dialog box similar to the one used during the “Create” process. Using this dialog box, you need to specify which listing you would like to delete. After you select the type of listing to delete, the system will ask you to confirm the deletion request. After hitting “OK”, you will see a system message at the top of the screen stating that your listing has been cancelled.
If you simply want to change a listing because you entered incorrect information, please use the “Manage” option instead of “Delete”.  If you don’t, you will need to wait 24 hours before you can create a new entry.

Details for “Search”

Search can be done in two ways. The first method is more like browsing, showing you the most recent listings to sort and go through as you please. In this mode, you can use the provided tabs to break up the results by the listing type: All (all listings), Marriage, Guild, M + A (Master and Apprentice), Kinship, and Search. Search will only show the subset of results gathered if you have already performed a search using the “Search” function outlined below. The results will always be shown with the most recent listing at the top, to the oldest at the bottom.  If there is more than one page of listings, you can use the First, Prev, Next, & Last Page options to flip through them.
The second search method is done by creating a more specific query using the “Search” function located on the bottom left part of the screen, found alongside the Create, Delete, & Manage buttons. With this method, you can further specify what you are looking for by selecting Class, Gender, Level Range, and Popularity of the listings shown.

Make a Connection
The last feature to cover is the most important one, allowing you to get in touch with the player you’ve been looking for. Once you have found the player in the list of results, click on his or her name to view details. Their details appear on the right side of the screen, along with a few additional options. Click on “Info” to display all of the information. Click on “Befriend”, located just below “Info”, to send this player an email indicating your interest. If all goes well, you will have just made a new friend!

Dragon Oath players have had a lot of content to play with the expansion Age of Destiny, and perhaps the most highly anticipated event for players were the new quests located in the Swallow’s Dock. Swallow’s Dock is a new area where players will get to experience large scale combat on a battleship setting. Sound appealing?

Krissy: I had been looking to find a new game so I could quit my previous game due to it draining my pocket book. So as searching I came across Dragon Oath in pre closed beta and showed it to my boyfriend to see if it would be something we could play. Once he agreed it looked nice, we started playing. It became addicting right away.

Dragon Oath: What is your favorite city/town/dungeon/region (pick) in Dragon Oath and why?
Krissy: Tomb of Khan is my favorite place to be. It’s secluded with lots of monsters around to keep me busy and gain experience and materials that I need.

Dragon Oath: Are there any events that your guild often does together?
Krissy: We do daily events together such as rebels/chess/Q123. I hold some personal events for incentives on the city, such as the person with highest contribution in a week will receive something nice from me.

Dragon Oath: Are you actively recruiting members? What do you look for in new members?
Krissy: Yes always actively recruiting. Since I am in the process of government 5 I will be offering free guild trade so I am raising my level requirement to level 50+ to try to keep out gold farmers. Other then that, just want active and friendly members around.

Krissy: I have a lot of best contributors. My deputy/husband Ballin is my top contributor. So here is a list of the ones I feel are best to describe what your asking. Ballin, LaoSupastar, gpsi, KongPong, apyc and Kattie.

Today we bring you the insight into the F2P game genre from Famous Wei, one of the developers of Dragon Oath.

From a developer’s standpoint, the most exciting opportunity you could have is that the games you have worked on will be available to anyone who has a computer and an internet connection. We all know MMORPG players are always in search of good games that they can play without burning a hole in their wallets.

But as F2P games offer an alternative to the traditional P2P model in the MMO market, the common gripes that you always hear about the F2P genre are:

“The graphics are so bad!”

“It’s free so it’s bound to have lots of bugs and glitches”

“It’s just a trick to make me eventually spend money”

It’s always funny for those of us in the industry to hear these complaints. I can’t speak for every other F2P game, but here at Dragon Oath these criticisms couldn’t be further from the truth. Our testers and developers spend just as much time, if not more, than our counterparts working on subscription-based games, debugging code and making sure the games run as smoothly and impressively as possible. We’re also committed to keeping Dragon Oath free forever.

With that being said, I personally am very excited to see the Western market opening up to more and more F2P MMOs. These games have been popular in Asia for quite a while now, but we’re seeing many becoming household names in America as well. Of course, bringing a popular game from China to the U.S. is not an easy task.

East Meets West

  Marketing: By far, the biggest challenge for us. The game Dragon Oath is based on an immensely popular martial arts novel in China. Going from being a household name to having nobody know anything about your product is not easy. It’s like making a game based on Harry Potter and giving it to an audience that has never read the book. So of course, despite our rich storyline and plot, these were not points that we could focus on in promoting the game. Thankfully, the huge number of appealing features and in-game events in Dragon Oath gave us something that MMORPG players anywhere can relate to.

  Features: Now, it’s no secret that there are differences in the audiences that we are catering to. Features that our players in Asia love could also be features that gamers in the U.S. hate! I’m not going to lie, it’s been a learning process for all of us here at ChangYou. The entire time we’ve released Dragon Oath in America, we’ve listened intently to user feedback and gamers’ suggestions. Things like deeper quest content and alternatives to grinding for experience are what we’ve worked to include in each patch and expansion. The one thing that’s stayed constant across the continents is the fact that an F2P survives based on the depth of the gaming experience it can offer players, regardless of whether or not they spent any money on microtransactions. When you have a game like ours whose content and depth rivals those of pay-to-play power houses like Aion and World of Warcraft, people start to take notice.

  Competition: Any time you come in to a new market, especially as an underdog, there are bound to be challenging competitors who already have a foothold in the marketplace. As I’ve said before, as an F2P game, we’ve had to battle the stereotypes that players inevitably have when they hear the name. It’s even tougher when you have well-established subscription-based games out there breathing down your neck. What we’re striving to have players understand though, is that F2P games like Dragon Oath offer players a unique experience, in that they can literally sample the game entirely for free, and play for however long they want to, and never spend one cent. This is appealing to both MMORPG newbies as well as veteran players who want to take up another challenge. Another advantage we hold is that the microtransaction model (which, due to its success, has been adopted by major P2P games like WoW) allows players from all walks of life to enjoy the game at the same level. If someone has little time on their hands due to work or school, they can always catch up to other player’s levels by spending a few dollars on experience items. At the same time, we balance the item shops so that you cannot simply spend a bunch of money to create an overpowered character. The sole purpose of the shop is to make sure all players can enjoy the same experience without forcing anyone to forego other important responsibilities that they may have.

  Going into the future, we know that we have a unique challenge. We have to distinguish ourselves from all the other F2Ps out there, we have to offer the same level of gameplay that all of the most popular MMORPGs have, and at the same time we’re going to have to offer our players a sense of community that they cannot get in any P2P game. To do that we’re going to keep giving the same level of customer service so that players will always be able to have their complaints, suggestions, and comments quickly heard and addressed. We will also continue to offer new expansions, features, and special events to really let our players know that they are in a dynamic community with many other people who share their love for the game.

During the Spring Festival (Feb 10th, 2010 to Feb 24th, 2010), the nine classes offer their disciples the opportunity to get special prizes from a form of loop quest called the “Class Spring Festival Shopping”. This quest requires the players to find an item requested by the class quest giver. Players are only able to complete three rounds of these loop quests a day, with each round consisting of a set of 8 quests. Players receive increasing experience from completing each successive quest in each round. In addition, when they finish a round, they receive either a special prize or a “Spring Couplet”. When they collect the full set of “Spring Couplets”, players will be eligible to exchange these for one of many Platypus Eggs which vary based on their current level. Players can make this exchange from Feb. 10th, 2010 to March 3rd, 2010.

A Beginner’s Review of Dragon Oath

Our forum volunteer Jason is probably like many of you, who used to be familiar with video games only and just recently picked up MMOs. He brought his this insight of Dragon Oath, the Free-to-Play Martial Arts Fantasy MMORPG, his first experience of the genre.

First Impressions:

For someone who has never experienced an MMORPG before, Dragon Oath was a great way to get acquainted. To be fair, the sheer size of the game at first seemed daunting, and all of the different controls, character attributes, areas to travel, and items to use were very intimidating. For a beginner like me, it was hard to get used to the interface and the different combinations of weapons/items that I could get. One thing that frustrated me in the beginning was the maximum capacity of the inventory, which made me learn how to drop items very early on. Now, all difficulties aside, it is very rewarding to accomplish a quest or learn a new skill, and this makes me feel like the learning curve is totally worth it. The MMORPG game definitely requires a bit of effort on the part of the gamer to learn its basic gameplay, but it is very addicting, as is the case with Dragon Oath.

Graphics:

Overall, the graphics of the game reminded me of the good times I had playing console video games such as Nintendo 64 and Playstation 2. I enjoy the bright colors and the player models are very good. Also, I haven’t found any glitches yet and the game runs very smoothly. I also like the ability to tilt the camera in many angles and zoom in on the action.

Gameplay:

The game has so many options that there is really nothing you can’t do. The most important thing to me has been the Auto-Pathing system, which saves time and allows you to send your character to a distant area and minimize the screen. I also like being able to click on the coordinates of the Quest to go directly to it. The controls are also nice and simple when it comes to the important stuff, like fighting enemies. I think battles at higher levels will probably be more interesting because there will be more options of attacks that I can choose from.

Overall:

Dragon Oath is a fun MMORPG and despite its huge array of gameplay options, is very friendly to beginning MMORPG players. The things I appreciate about the game are its ease of navigation, huge amounts of quests, and the variety of different character types you can be. I haven’t played enough to interact with other human players, but I imagine that’s where the game’s real fun lies. Dragon Oath does a great job of getting players into the world and making them want to stay for more.

Event 1: Cupid’s Arrows

From February 10th through February 16th, Dragon Oath players will be able to share their feelings of love for one another! Visit Cupid in Luo Yang (177,102) to receive your Valentine’s Event “Cupid’s Arrows.” You can use these arrows to shoot other players as a display of your love for them. If you hit someone with an arrow, that player will be struck with the “Cupid’s Kiss” buff.

Once your target has been “kissed”, invite the player to a group and go back to Cupid (177,102) to receive some rewards.

One of the available prizes is the amazing “I Love You” fireworks displayed below. The prizes vary but most of them are related to the Valentine’s Day holiday. You and your partner are only allowed to receive a prize once per day, and you must both be present when returning to Cupid to receive the prize. Though you are only able to receive prizes once per day, you can use your arrow on up to 3 people per day, so spread love all over the Dragon Oath world!

Event 2: Marriage Memories

Have you always wanted to re-live that special moment when you and your loved one pledged everlasting love for one another?

Simply go to Luo Yang and find Le Chi (177,94), then select “Wedding Renewing” and use a Supreme Wedding Card, 52 Gold, 5 Silver, and 20 Copper to start your wedding Parade of Roses!

Players will need to spend 1 Love Story and 10 Gold the first time around and double that each successive time. Thus, if a player wants to experience the Parade of Roses two more times, they will need 2 Love Stories and 20 Gold the second time and 4 Love Stories and 40 Gold the third time.

Players can participate in the Parade of Roses up to 9 times a day.

Classifieds Summary

In Dragon Oath: Age of Destiny, we are integrating a classifieds feature which allows players to connect with each another in a new way. In the top-left corner of your screen you will notice a button with the letter “C”. This button leads you to the new classifieds feature. Instead of just having player-to-player relations, players can now allow their pets to partner with each other to make the mating process even easier. In addition, players are getting a huge boost! Players will now be able to create advertisements for a spouse, a master, an apprentice, guild members, or kin that list their preferences of Gender, Class, Level and many more! Other players can help improve these advertisements by voting on them! This addition will allow players to get an in-depth understanding of each another so that alliances can more easily be made in the game.

In Dragon Oath: Age of Destiny, users will find a whole new area has been added to Pet Island: Pet Hill. In this area, players will find several new pets to aid them on their journey in the Kung Fu world. These pets are for higher level characters, rewarding those who have put plenty of effort into increasing their renown in the ancient Kung Fu world. Because of this high level status, Pet Hill is a special zone that allows players to fight one another without a Crime Point penalty. So not only will you be faced with the challenge of fighting very powerful pets and having to avoid the ever present Island Guardian, you will also have the chance of running into a fellow warrior seeking the same rewards as you. If you are successful, you may find that your new pet companion gives you quite an edge over the competition!

New pets include an elephant, a rhinoceros, a ferret, a wild unicorn, and even a dinosaur!

How to Get Them

Players can now get to Pet Hill by talking to Cherry Yun in Luo Yang. While in Pet Hill, players can capture many new pets such as the Kangaroo and Rhino.

Note: Kung Fu Cowboy Pack keys are only valid for new players and players under Level 30.

Upon receiving the Kung Fu Cowboy Pack, you must take it to the Wealth Herald, Guileless Du, in Da Li. He will need to activate the card before you can claim any of the rewards. Upon activation, the card will be removed from your inventory, and you’ll be able to start claiming your rewards.
