These aren’t “official,” of course, and we want to know what you think about them so why not join our Facebook page or get on the forums and talk about your own map strategies? We’ve also launched submachine gun month, so keep an eye on our page to find out about the great sales and events we’ve got coming up. In that vein, we’re taking a look at the PP-19 MOD in our Item of the Week feature and we’re going to see what your fellow Combat Arms soldiers have to say about it. Item of the Week

PP19 MOD

This week’s item of the week is the PP-19 MOD. A custom model of the PP-19, which features an attached silencer as well as a red dot sight, modified to suit Special Operations. This sub-machine gun is very popular amongst our Combat Arms soldiers, most of whom sing it’s praises for small maps such as Junk Flea, Death Room and Vertigo. This gun seem particularly popular on Death Room, in fact, because of people’s tendency to crowd up at the top of the stairs. That makes the PP-19 MOD’s 65-bullet clip particularly devastating when used on clumped together enemies. If you’re looking for multi-kills and accolades for close quarters combat, this is the gun to get.

“This weapon is the best, in my opinion, on Death Room. It is the best when going up the stairs on either base and having three or more enemies there camping. This is because there is so much ammo and the bullets do lots of damage, it kills the three (or more) enemies fast and gets you a good accolade.” – Devon D. 

“PP-19 is a great gun for trying for accolades and surviving for a long time. The rate of fire and the speed of the gun makes it perfect for small maps. This doesn’t do justice to the PP-19. It is also great at mid-distance, to take out those snipers before they can shoot you.”– Bill C. 

“The PP-19 MOD is an excellent submachine gun with a rapid fire rate. The recoil or spread of bullets is moderate meaning that you should hold the trigger for five bullets, rest, and repeat. The portability is decent so don’t waste your time switching to a knife because it will probably delay your ability to fire at enemies around corners. Due to the high number of bullets in a round, reload only when you are left with around 10-20 bullets. The silencer attached to the gun is also quite effective at masking sound providing decent stealth. I personally recommend this gun for use in small maps like Death Room and Vertigo. The PP-19 MOD is enough to get the job done at medium range. However, shooting over long distances will result in inaccuracy. So, have a handy long range weapon, preferably a sniper rifle, with you at all times. This gun is spectacular and you will not be disappointed with the money you spend on it. Enjoy!” – Manu K.

Events, events, events! That was the watchword this week as Combat Arms launched a host of great events to coincide with kickoff of the biggest soccer event in the world! Desert Eagle SE

This week’s item of the week is the Desert Eagle SE. A customized version of the Desert Eagle with a beautifully carved design on the side, the Desert Eagle is more than just pretty; it’s one of the most powerful handguns in the game. Obviously as a pistol, the Desert Eagle is always a secondary weapon to be used in specialized scenarios and as a last-ditch weapon. Given that, however, the Desert Eagle SE has proved very popular amongst Combat Arms soldiers who use it in close quarters combat maps such as Junk Flea and Cold Seed.  The place that this gun really shines though, is on “Pistol Onlly” games where the power of the gun makes it incredibly deadly in skilled hands.

“This gun does well on any map, no argument. Its high stopping power does more per-bullet damage than many main weapons, so that when you have to get someone out of your way in a hurry, one, MAYBE two, will do the job.” – Anthony C. 

“The Desert Eagle SE is a great pistol. Always great in a pistol only match as it is a powerful gun of choosing. One of many great maps for this gun to be used is Junk Flea as it has many small hiding places to attack your enemy but still defend yourself from enemy fire as well. That’s where this document will be of assistance. Dubbed “The Steady Shooter,” this pamphlet will offer an operational assessment of various fields of engagement and give a suggested basic equipment loadout for particular tactical doctrines.

Note that this recommendation should not be considered “official” or even the “best” for an operation. Soldiers are encouraged to experiment with equipment loadouts and discuss amongst themselves alternative strategies and equipment configurations. For the novice soldier or even a veteran looking for a basic tactical assessment though, The Steady Shooter should provide a valuable resource.

Operational Intelligence

Vertigo

The latest addition to the Combat Arms operational theater is a rooftop-themed map codenamed “Vertigo.” The situation is grave. Terrorists have inserted themselves on the roof of a major finance building and are looking to disseminate nerve gas throughout the circulation system. Military forces have landed on the roof and are looking to penetrate the building in order to stop the terrorists from releasing the nerve gas. Expect to meet heavy resistance from the moment you land on the roof.

Vertigo Tactical Assessment

Vertigo is a small map that’s roughly square with two enclosed areas on either side surrounding a relatively open area in the center. Calling the center “open” however, does an injustice to the tactical problems offered by this map. Put simply, there is no real “open” zone on this map. The entire area  is a jungle of pipes, catwalks, bridges, ducts and platforms on various levels.

The result is that it’s extremely difficult to move in a straight line for more than a few feet in any direction and the entire area is loaded with tight corners and even tighter spaces as well as obstacles that will break your line of sight. It’s very easy to lose sight of your enemy and it’s also very easy to lose track of your surroundings and have the enemy sneak up on you.

Here are some key tactics to remember on Vertigo:

• Speed is life: Since it’s difficult to track your opponents through the twists and turns of this map, it’s very important to be quick  on the draw. If you see an enemy, start shooting! Even if you miss, you may scare them off, giving yourself a few precious seconds to get into a better position or saving yourself from getting shot.

• Speed is life II: Never stop moving! This is critical. Stopping for even a moment will give your opponent a moment to draw a bead on you and there are at least two decent sniper positions on the map where a sniper  can peg you.

• Don’t Nest: This is almost a corollary to “speed is life II.” If you’re a sniper, know where the good positions are on the map but don’t set up shop there. Set up a movement pattern that rotates between them. When you arrive, do a fast scan to see if there are any targets of opportunity and then move on. Stay in a sniper’s nest and someone will come up behind you and nail you. There are simply too many approaches to any position on the map to stand still.

• Hop around: Vertigo is not flat terrain. The map is loaded with platforms, catwalks and bridges. Jump around when you approach them and remember to look up for enemies above you. Try to take the high ground whenever possible. People don’t look up as often as they should.

• Beware of traps: The two enclosed areas at the end of the map and the corners of the room are prime real estate for mines and turrets. They’re dark and people tend to charge around the corners without looking down. Many a Combat Arms soldier has been lost stepping on a mine or has  walked into a hail of bullets in these areas. Don’t let it be you.

• Switch to a Close Quarters Weapon in the enclosed area: A shotgun or a submachine gun as a secondary weapon will do wonders to keep you alive,  as long as you remember to switch whenever you enter these areas.

• Beware the Spawn Shield: Both the spawn points for team matches – primarily Elimination and Capture the Flag – are quite close together. It’s really easy to get caught by somebody charging out of their spawn still in their three seconds of immunity.

The Loadout

The following represents Combat Arms Command’s suggested equipment list for operational engagements  in “Vertigo.” Note that this is not  considered an “official” or even a “best” list of equipment. Soldiers are encouraged to experiment with  different loadouts and trade strategy tips with one another on our official forums. For the novice soldier, this list will assist you in defining the equipment loadout that’s right for you.

Primary Weapon:

M416 CQB: The M416 CQB is a variant of the M416 outfitted with a shorter barrel, mounted reflex sight, and foregrip. The M416 CQB is optimized for close quarters combat on tight  maps. The gun has relatively low power and a strong kickback. This is more than made up for by its fast fire rate. Put simply, on a small map where you need to fire as soon as you see your opponent, you want as many bullets in the air as fast as your gun can pump them out. The M416 is also a decent mid-to-long range weapon and while you’ll do your share of up-close-and-personal combat, you’ll also be taking shots at people at range.

Secondary Weapon:

L115A3: Integrated with a suppressor to help obscure the sniper’s location, the L115A3 further improves on the abilities of this powerful line of sniper rifles. This powerful one-hit kill rifle will be your best friend as you use its magnification feature to take out other snipers who have taken cover in one of Vertigo’s many sniper roosts. It also sports enough portability for some good hit-and-run sniping.

Pistol

Anaconda Silver: This is the silver-plated version of the powerful Anaconda magnum. Not only does it look cool, it’s got enough stopping power with its .45 caliber slugs to take down any charging player. The big drawback of this weapon is that it has a very slow rate of fire. On Vertigo though, this isn’t as much of an impediment as it seems. Given the tight quarters of Vertigo, the Anaconda is a last-resort panic weapon. If you do manage to hit someone with it, you’ll want to make it count.

Gear

Light Vest: This is a simple, lightweight bulletproof vest. This will reduce the amount of armor you carry, meaning that you can take fewer hits. The 10% speed bonus really comes in handy though on a small map like Vertigo. Speed is life and every little bit helps.

Urban Camo: A camouflage pattern ideal for use in urban combat operations.

Cyclops Bandana: This Cyclops bandana is a scarf favored by members of Warcorp. It looks cool, but the most important element  is the 7% speed boost.

Flame Bandit Mask: This utilitarian mask made from damage-resistant material also features a fearsome flame emblem. It also gives a boost to your sprint stamina which allows you to move faster for longer when you need to. The protection against headshots might also save your life when you unthinkingly expose yourself in an open area on the map.

Specialist Gear

Please note that these items may only be purchased and used if you’ve purchased a specialist character.

Auto Turret: An armed, deployable turret, the Auto-Turret is capable of automatically detecting and engaging hostile targets, providing instant support on the battlefield. This is a vicious weapon that can be hidden behind one of Vertigo’s many dark corners. There’s simply nothing better than watching unwitting enemies stumble into a hail of bullets.

M93 Hornet: Commonly used in combat as a wide-area explosive,  the M93 Hornet is a smart mine which automatically detects movement in the surrounding area and causes a massive aerial explosion. This is another vicious little surprise that specialists love to hide behind darkened corners on Vertigo. Always look down!

This is because there is so much ammo and the bullets do lots of damage, it kills the three (or more) enemies fast and gets you a good accolade.” – Devon D. 

“PP-19 is a great gun for trying for accolades and surviving for a long time. The rate of fire and the speed of the gun makes it perfect for small maps. This doesn’t do justice to the PP-19. It is also great at mid-distance, to take out those snipers before they can shoot you.”– Bill C. 

“The PP-19 MOD is an excellent submachine gun with a rapid fire rate. The recoil or spread of bullets is moderate meaning that you should hold the trigger for five bullets, rest, and repeat. The portability is decent so don’t waste your time switching to a knife because it will probably delay your ability to fire at enemies around corners. Due to the high number of bullets in a round, reload only when you are left with around 10-20 bullets. The silencer attached to the gun is also quite effective at masking sound providing decent stealth. I personally recommend this gun for use in small maps like Death Room and Vertigo. The PP-19 MOD is enough to get the job done at medium range. However, shooting over long distances will result in inaccuracy. So, have a handy long range weapon, preferably a sniper rifle, with you at all times. This gun is spectacular and you will not be disappointed with the money you spend on it. Enjoy!” – Manu K.

It has been over three months since we launched the Password Update Campaign. The goal of the campaign is encourage players to change their account passwords more frequently to keep the password safe from account theft and phishers. As we pass the three month mark, players are again reminded and encouraged to change their password. The password change is optional. If you choose to change your password when prompted you will be reminded again in 3 months. If you choose not to change your password you will be reminded every month until you do decide to change it.

Again, the password change is optional but we encourage all players to change the password to their accounts when prompted. Account security starts with you. Please keep your account safe by not sharing your information and being wary of potential scams.

Don’t look down because it’s a really long way to fall. At least it is when you start playing on the latest Combat Arms map, Operation: Vertigo. The new map, a new mode and bunch of new items are the big news in this week’s content update. There’s big news for Combat Arms, soldiers. It seems that terrorists are attacking a major finance building, and are threatening to release nerve gas. Item of the Week

MP5 MOD

This week’s item of the week is the MP5 MOD. The MP5 MOD is a fully equipped version of the MP5 family of submachine guns with an integrated S3 Suppressor and a mounted ACOG TA1 Scope. The consensus on this gun is that this is an exceptional gun for close quarters combat on tight maps such as Junk Flea, Cold Seed and Death Room. The gun has a very fast fire rate and low kickback for its power. Many of our Combat Arms soldiers also believe that this gun might be good for new players, because the amount of bullets it puts out helps to balance out less than stellar aim.

“Although the MP5 MOD is perfect for close-quarter maps such as Junk Flea or Death Room, its low recoil and additional accuracy thanks to its attached scope makes it easy to fire at and take down enemies from a distance, making it efficient to use in maps such as Sand Hog where having a weapon that is good for close-quarters and mid-range combat is a must.” – Steven G. .

“The MP5 Mod is a great gun in almost in any situation. I mostly use the SMG’s in Close Combat maps like Death Room or Junk Flea. With the MP5 Mod I can it to Snow Valley and use the Scope to get HS’s from the tunnel or even on the tower. With the MP5 Mod’s rate and fire and accuracy it is a good all map gun in the right hands.” – Richard Y.

“An excellent gun, low recoil, high fire rate, prefer the RAS model but still very good. This gun on a small map with face-to-face combat, nothing stands a chance!.” – Ben J.

Upon discovering the plans of the terrorists, military forces have inserted onto the roof of the high rise. Stop the terrorists from detonating their chemical weapon!

Server Changes:
• Kill Creek can now be played on Clearance Level 2 Servers, as well as on Bulldog (Clan server).
• Servers will now be displayed in order of Clearance Levels, KDR and rank requirements.
• As a reminder, the threshold to reach the Bronze NX Grade, and thus entrance into the Black Market server, was decreased over the last month. Your NX Grade may have changed, so give it a second look!

Rank Reward Items:
• Players who reach the rank of Major II will automatically be rewarded the Elite Moderator item (permanent). Players who already have reached this rank will have the item waiting in their inbox.
 
Bug Fixes:
• Mei’s MP7 MOD can no longer be renewed.
• Fixed an issue relating to clans and the “$HQServerLoginFail” message.
• Other minor bug fixes.

• The post-loading Splash Screen has been changed

Item of the Week

REC7

This week’s item of the week is the REC7. Part of the M16 and M4 family of rifles, its new 6.8mm rounds give the REC7 powerful fire without a massive kick. The consensus on this gun is that it’s best described as a great “all-around” gun for close to mid-range combat in maps like Junk Flea, Gravedigger and especially Two Towers. It’s a good close in weapon thanks to its impressive stopping power and low recoil but the built in site also make it a decent weapon for mid-range combat. While there are better weapons for close-in work and general combat, the REC7 is a wonderful rifle mostly due its versatility rather than any specialty.

“The REC7 is basically the advanced version of the M417. I try to pick up M417’s because of how great a gun it is, but since this came out on CA, it has been Heaven for me.” – Josh F.

“When I pick up a gun that looks like an M417 and it’s really an REC7, I start dancing because I just noticed that I just got one of the best weapons in Combat Arms.” – Joey V.

“This gun is great. It has an itech scope on it. It has a great fire rate, great power and low recoil. I use this gun in Gravedigger Elimination Pro when there are people who rush together underground, so it’s easy to get a double kill in three seconds of shooting. This gun is a multi-purpose gun where you can snipe with the low recoil and use it in close-quarter combat with the fast firing. Overall, this is an excellent gun, one that should be looked high upon.”- David F.

Item of the Week

AA-12

This week’s item of the week is the AA-12. This rapid fire shotgun equipped with a drum magazine is known for its minimal recoil and high level of accuracy. The consensus on this gun is that it’s at its best on small tight maps such as Death Room and Junk Flea where enemies are almost always in range. While it doesn’t carry the punch or the range of some other shotgun types, the low recoil, accuracy and the 20 ammo per clip makes up for it. It also has a fairly fast fire rate for a shotgun, making this a good gun for an emergency situation.

“This shotgun is unrivaled in clip size compared to other shotguns, which allows for you to come out on top of any engagement and be able to continue unloading your way to victory. It’s best used on close quarters maps like Death Room, Overdose, and even Junk Flea. Nothing better than owning all opposition with a few well placed shotgun blasts with this weapons high accuracy.”– Josh F.

“The AA-12 is great for any type of close quarter combat surroundings. Walking around a corner, see an unsuspecting player, shoot 2, maybe 1 round, and instant death. M110 SASS

This week’s item of the week is the M110 SASS. This is the latest version of a semi-automatic sniper rifle based on the SR-25. It has an added rail system design and boasts a high level of accuracy and a superior effective range. According to many of our Combat Ar5s soldiers, the M110 SASS is rapidly becoming a favorite amongst our hard-core sniper set. The gun is especially useful on maps where extreme long-range fire precision is necessary including Snow Valley and Waverider. It’s also very useful on the new Kill Creek map. Singled out for particular praise is the semi-automatic nature of the rife. If you miss the first shot, its quick reload gives you a second chance to take out the target.

“This gun is a great no scoping and long range sniper. It excels on Snow Valley because of its high fire rate and the chance of a one-shot kill. I thought the SR-25 was good till I saw this bit of machinery.”– John V.

“It Is awesome! The fire rate is superior to any other sniper. Has a good damage and can kill in one shot(not counting headshots). Its accuracy is pretty amazing too. The best map to use it on would probably be Snow Valley because there are snipers all over and you want to get them as quick as possible. It’s a fast gun and you can easily shoot the other player quicker and reload for some major pwnage!” – Andrew T.

“I picked up the M110 in a game of elimination on Kill Creek and kicked sass with it! (I know, lame pun). It’s gotta be one of the best snipers in the game, incredibly accurate and incredibly lethal. Fast fire-rate combined with its great accuracy almost makes this count as an Assault Rifle as well as a sniper. Works great on small maps like Death Room too as no scopes can be easy in larger games. I’ve tried, it’s pwnage!”- Jake D.

•             All you have to do is visit the Customer Support portal
•             Select the “Game Related” category
•             Select the “Contest” sub-category
•             In the “Contest Name” field, enter “Meet and Greet”. 

All questions must be submitted by 8:59 PM (PST)/11:59(EST) on May 16th, 2010.

10 randomly chosen players will receive 5,000 GP and have their questions and answers reproduced in a future post on the official Combat Arms Website!

• It should be noted that although Mei’s MP7 MOD can currently be renewed, it will no longer be renewable with the May 26th Update. If love your Mei’s MP7 MOD, now would be the time to renew it!

• Vote Kick now requires 70% of the votes to be positive in order for a kick to go through. Don’t hesitate to drop us a line on how it affected your gameplay here.

Server Changes:

·         The threshold for the Bronze NX Grade (Black Market Server entry requirement) has been reduced.

Balance Changes:

·         Auto-turrets now take significantly more damage from explosives.

·         Slightly increased the amount of GP and EXP awarded by Bombing Run matches.

Bug Fixes

·         Auto-turrets no longer harm friendly players in Fireteam (although it will still injure the user).

·         Heartbeat Sensor and Heartbeat Detector can now be equipped.

·         Restored the text on the “Charge NX” button.

·         Fixed an issue relating to purchasing MYST-G Supply Crates from the Shopping Cart.

·         Reduced the likelihood of incurring falling damage when descending the stairs in Kill Creek.

·         Adjusted some text in the Clan Quick Match lobby.
